Shifat Hasan
Shifat is the Head of Investment Performance and Compliance at the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS), the largest educator-only pension plan in the world with around $300 billion in assets under management. Prior to joining CalSTRS, she worked for a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA), Crestone Capital in Boulder, Colorado, as their Portfolio Accounting Manager and led client performance and advisor related reporting. She has over 17 years of US investment industry experience. Shifat completed her MBA from Texas A&M Commerce, is a Certified Management Accountant and CFA charterholder.
Leading and developing several functional areas in investment offices for over 16 years, she has contributed to the success of several high performing teams. Throughout her career, she has spoken at several conferences as a subject matter expert on various investment and finance topics. At CalSTRS, Shifat leads a team of highly skilled professionals who work collaboratively with cross-functional areas to meet investing goals and objectives of CalSTRS multi-asset class Investment Office. She and her team oversee the implementation of new investment strategies, ensure accurate investment performance calculations, and foster an environment of the highest ethical standards. In addition to overseeing the Investment Performance and Compliance teams, Shifat manages the CalSTRS Diversity in the Management of Investments Program.
In 2020, Shifat was recognized as a 40 Under 40 honoree in the Sacramento Business Journal. In her free time, Shifat enjoys spending time with her family, biking on the American River, cooking, and dining out.
