Ranah Esmaili is an Assistant Director in the Division of Enforcement’s Asset Management Unit. She supervises investigations concerning potential misconduct by investment advisers to retail accounts, registered investment companies, and private funds. Ms. Esmaili has also supervised and conducted investigations concerning potential improper private fund valuation, misallocation of fund expenses, misappropriation of client assets, undisclosed compensation, registration failures, undisclosed investment strategies, and other undisclosed conflicts of interest. Prior to becoming an Assistant Director, Ms. Esmaili served as a Senior Advisor in the Asset Management Unit and, before that, a staff attorney in the unit.
Ms. Esmaili joined the SEC from private practice where she served as counsel at a law firm in New York. Ms. Esmaili received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she graduated with honors, and her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
