Jeff Soderstrom is a Sr. Vice President for Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis. He leads the firm’s Risk Mitigation Department. This includes the Centralized Supervision Unit, a department of 230 credentialed securities professionals who complete day to day supervision of customer new accounts, trades, insurance, annuities and financial planning in support of the firm’s 10,000 financial advisors. It also includes a broader risk team of people responsible for supervisory tools, procedures, training as well as vulnerable client case handling and a variety of other risk related operations. Jeff previously held a Vice President position in the Ameriprise Compliance Department, leading teams focused on compliance policy, field office examinations and supervisory controls. Prior to joining Ameriprise in 2006, Jeff worked at Prudential Financial for 18 years where he served in various leadership roles, including Vice President positions in Compliance and in Operations & Controls. Jeff’s roles have consistently included responsibilities for the development of supervisory and oversight systems for retail securities sales. A common theme of his work has been the goal of improving risk identification and mitigation efforts while also improving efficiencies and advisor understanding of necessary supervision and compliance controls. Jeff received an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN and BA from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. Jeff is involved in several trade organizations, including serving in a governance role for the Compliance Forum. He is a past member of the Financial Services Institute Compliance Council. He has the CRCP designation. Jeff is married with three kids and lives in a western suburb of Minneapolis.
