Idriys Abdullah is the Consumer Protection Advocate at the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking. Mr. Abdullah has over thirty years of experience in consumer protection and advocacy, housing and community development, community outreach and education. In a distinguished career, he has served in leadership roles with nonprofit, government, and private sector organizations. Mr. Abdullah holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology and Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Committed to continuing education, Idriys has actively pursued professional training in consumer protection, mortgage banking, real estate finance and development, insurance and securities, financial literacy training, homebuyer education and housing counseling. He has consistently invested in the community through volunteer service with numerous nonprofit organizations including MiCasa, Inc., Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc., Washington Area Community Investment Fund, Deanwood Heights Main Streets, National Federation of Housing Counselors, and DC Metropolitan Association of Housing Counselors. Abdullah also serves on the District of Columbia Financial Literacy Council, District of Columbia Elder Abuse Prevention Committee and Greater Washington Jump$tart Coalition and was recently recognized with the DC Office on Aging Outstanding Service Award. A native Washingtonian and proud graduate of DC Public Schools, he currently resides in Ward 4 of our nation’s capital.
