Barton Aronson is the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of New Vernon Capital, a Jersey City-based registered investment adviser. New Vernon sponsors funds and separately managed accounts investing in public equities, private equity, and real estate, primarily in emerging markets. Prior to joining New Vernon, Mr. Aronson was a litigation partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells). At Hogan, he focused on class actions and other complex litigation involving health benefits, insurance industry practices, and consumer products, and also counseled clients on internal systems related to litigation intake, document preservation, and electronic discovery. Before that, Mr. Aronson served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. and an assistant district attorney in Norfolk County, MA. He clerked for the Hon. Douglas P. Woodlock of the U.S. District Court in Boston, MA. He received his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D. from the University of Chicago. Mr. Aronson was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he taught introductory and advanced courses in criminal procedure.
